Place - Fort George 8th Feb. 1946. Stamped officially on 9th Feb. 1946 by Officer in Charge.
Army education record - Building Construction. 'Keen, with sound technical knowledge. Great help in class.' Signed by Unit Educating Officer. 10th February, 1946 - Clothing Depot, York Barracks sent a certificate to the Regimental Paymaster at Glasgow to inform them John Baddiley had surrendered a great coat.

'On 10th February 1946 John Baddiley proceeded on release leave'.

Was part of the Algerian Landings in 1942

Was in action in Tunisia in the Infantry Division Billeted in an old farm loft. He had to get up one night , for whatever reason, and fell from the loft to the floor below. Resulted in a break of the wrist/arm? (I can't spell Scafoid bone). This resulted in Septicaemia and he was sent to convalesce in a depot in Algiers.

He was sent home in plaster in the September After a rest at Kings Newton he was sent to Scotland to Fort George

He spent time in Callender and Sterling

His unit was sent to Cyprus then into Italy after Algiers where they suffered heavy losses. His breaking of the bone most probably saved his life.

Narrative

John originated from Birtley, Co. Durham, moving down to Kings Newton with his family who were seeking work. John was a very good singer. He was one of the leading choirboys at Melbourne Church and was offered a position with Lichfield Cathedral Choir. His father refused to give him this great chance in life). John was also taken away from Melbourne Church choir at this time! John did his apprenticeship at Ford and Weston Ltd., Derby . He worked for Jack Passam, undertakers, of Castle Street for many years. He moved from there to Melbourne Engineering, Derby Road to work until he retired as a skilled turner.
